Mark your calendars! The Kansas CPM Society invites you to visit us in June 2004, when we host the 16th Annual AACPM Professional Development Conference in Topeka, Kansas. The conference committees have been busy finalizing all the details necessary to provide you an educational and entertaining experience. The conference dates are June 20-23, 2004.

You will be visiting Kansas during the most beautiful time of the year. Expect sunny days, blue skies and occasional cotton candy clouds. Temperatures are generally in the 70’s and 80’s. Gentle breezes whisper across landscapes decorated with beautiful wildflower blossoms and – yes - sunflowers! Watch closely, however, so that you don’t miss any of the beautiful animals that share this great land with us – horses, cattle, buffalo, deer, rabbits, birds, and many other critters will be waiting to surprise you as you travel through Kansas.

Most of the educational activities will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel & Convention Center. For the opening session, we have been invited to meet in the House Chambers of the Kansas State Capitol. (The City of Topeka web site has an outstanding virtual tour of the Capitol, constructed beginning in 1866.) The Conference Speaker Committee has been working diligently with the AACPM Board to finalize the speaker selections, so expect more information soon. Our sessions will offer topics including: employee relations, conflict resolution, rewards/recognition, e-mail privacy, leadership, communication, team building, strategic management, and change management. You will be impressed with the quality and diversity of the presentations!

Other committees have been planning activities that will make for some enjoyable and memorable evening events. On Sunday, we will travel by trolley to the Kansas Museum of History, where you will have a chance to meet with friends from other states. On that evening, you will also be able to tour the Kansas Museum of History, with a guest visit from Amelia Earhart! On Monday evening, we will treat you to a Wild West Hoedown under the stars, complete with entertainers and dancing. Tuesday will be an enchanting celebration, as we travel to OZ and the "Emerald City" for the awards night. At all these events, we have planned menus that will feature Kansas foods from Kansas vendors. We’re even planning homemade ice cream!

Some web sites you could visit, as your plan your trip to Kansas:

We are pleased to announce that the on-line registration process is now available, as well as a PDF format that can be printed and mailed to us. Please expect the conference brochure to be mailed to you in February 2004. Otherwise, we will be sending out other information as developments occur. If you have questions, or if we can provide more information, please let us know.

We look forward to your visit to Kansas!
