Membership Classifications

AACPM has a number of membership classifications, providing membership opportunities for individuals from many different perspectives.  Membership classifications are established by the Board of Directors, with the exception of Honorary Members which requires action by the House of Delegates to change.  Membership Classifications are as follows:

Fellow – A Fellow is a member who has graduated from a CPM Program accredited by the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium.  Fellows in good standing have all rights and privileges of full membership.

Member-at-Large – A Member-at-Large is a Fellow who resides in a geographical region (state or district) NOT covered by a CPM Society currently chartered by AACPM.  Members-at-Large in good standing have all rights and privileges of full membership, but are not represented in the House of Delegates.

Associate Member – An Associate Member is a member who does not meet the criteria of a Fellow or Member-at-Large.  Examples: current CPM students; public managers that are not Certified Public Managers®; public officials; and others with whom affiliation is considered to be in the best interest of the Academy.  While Associate Members may serve on AACPM committees, they cannot be appointed as the committee Chair or hold elected office.

Consortium Member – Consortium Members are CPM program directors or instructors who are NOT a Certified Public Manager® and are therefore not eligible for membership as a Fellow or Member-at-Large.  While Consortium Members may serve on AACPM committees, they cannot be appointed as the committee Chair or hold elected office.

Honorary Member – Honorary Members are individuals who have performed notable service to or support for the American Academy of Certified Public Managers®.  Selection shall be approved by a three-fourths majority vote of the Board of Directors and ratified by a majority vote of the current House of Delegates.  Honorary Members do not enjoy the rights and privileges of a full membership.

If you are interested in membership but aren’t sure if you qualify, contact the Board Member-at-Large for Membership for more information.
