Kenneth K. Henning Award
Each year, the Academy recognizes an outstanding member with the Henning Trophy named for Kenneth K. Henning, the founder of the CPM Program. The trophy is awarded to the member who is deemed to have made the greatest contribution to the Certified Public Manager® Program at the state and national level.

The Academy was proud to recognize Dr. Edward R. Burt, III (NC) as the recipient of this most prestigious Award.

Other members honored this year as nominees were Debra Bourbeau (NH), Dr. Ada Brunette (FL), Paula Green (OK), Gregory D. Hyland (AZ), Jeffrey Roemer (WI) and Pamla Wood (KY).

The President’s Award

The President’s Award is intended to recognize and publicly celebrate an individual’s service, accomplishments and status as an informal leader among the members of the American Academy. Criteria for the President’s Award include the awardee materially improved the Academy program(s) or initiative(s) on behalf of the membership and in consultation with the AACPM Board of Directors; volunteered as a member, not as an elected Academy officer or board member; demonstrated leadership and communicated effectively with all interested parties; and sustained focus and energy over at least a two year period.

In 2006, the Academy was proud to recognize Ardie A. Davis (KS) as the recipient of this year’s President’s Award in recognition of his dedicated volunteer efforts to assist with the writing and editing “The CPM Connection” since 2001.

 

Fran L. Wilkinson Memorial Scholarships
These scholarships, named in memory of Fran L. Wilkinson of Georgia for her leadership in the CPM program at the state and national level, were developed to promote high professional, educational and ethical standards in public management. They provide up to two cash awards per year to deserving students who are seeking a college degree to prepare them for a career in public management.

In 2006, the Academy was proud to award the Wilkinson Scholarships to Deidre Lynn Jones (FL) and Gregory D. Hyland (AZ).

The George C. Askew Award
These Awards honor individuals for demonstrating exemplary work in the completion of their CPM Projects while pursuing their certification. These exceptional CPM Projects utilized management practices that exemplify the philosophy of the AACPM. These awards are named for George C. Askew, recognized as the first person to receive CPM certification (by virtue of his last name) at the first graduation ceremony in Georgia in 1976. Askew was a leader at both the local and national levels in the early days of the organizations. These awards are presented to those selected by each CPM program and are given, as stated on the medallion, “For the utilization of management practices exemplifying the philosophy of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers®  in the completion of an exceptional curriculum project.”
