AACPM Implements Electronic Communications Connection for Society Leaders
Following informal discussions by Society leaders and a request by the AACPM's House of Delegates Meeting in Topeka last June, the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® has implemented an e-mail listserve for Society and Academy leadership to help facilitate communications across the organization.
The listserve is accessed through the AACPM's web page in the "Members Only" section, and is only available to Society Presidents, President-elects and Past Presidents, in addition to the AACPM Board of Directors.
In order to provide the requested and needed security of the E-Mail addresses included in the listings, a User Name and Password is required to access these E-Mail Distribution Group Lists once you go to the Members Only Section. The user name and password has been provided to those Society leaders who are to have access to the service. Access to these Distribution Groups without use of the User Name/Password is not permitted and anyone attempting to do so will be denied.
AACPM President Ron Buchholz reports that following the House of Delegates direction he created a Committee on Electronic Communications for AACPM and Member Society Leaders and charged that Committee as follows: "To review and evaluate the alternative options and report back to the Board two months from today with a suggested list of recommendations that the Board should consider in how to best implement the motion that was just passed by the HOD. The Board will implement action by the third month."
Bill Herman of NH chaired the Committee, which included Mark Evans (WI), Chris Grasso (FL), Mike Purcell (KS), Sandy Scallan (LA), Debbie Smith (OK) and Danny Weiss (DC).
As part of its efforts, the Committee conducted a comprehensive survey of Society Officers to determine their wants and needs relating to improved electronic communications. In issuing its report and recommendations to the AACPM Board of Directors, the Committee detailed the actions it took, including the survey results as an appendix to the report.
By unanimous vote, the Academy Board accepted and approved the Report and its recommendations on September 1, 2004. Action was taken to implement the recommendations included in the report, and the new e-mail listserve was established by October 1st, in keeping with President Buchholz's pledge to the AACPM House of Delegates.
"The Communication Committee did an outstanding job in a very limited time frame and I offer my sincere Congratulations to each Committee Member on a Job Well Done!" Buchholz said. "I hope that you find the E-Mail Distribution Group Lists to be of value to your Society Leadership and improve your communication capabilities."
