North Carolina Certifies 69 Graduates of the Public Managers Program
The Public Managers Program of North Carolina held graduation ceremonies on October 4th at the North Carolina Museum of History in downtown Raleigh. It was a beautiful afternoon and many family members, co-workers and friends were on hand to witness this important occasion. The designation of Certified Public Manager® was bestowed on 69 graduates, representing 13 different departments or agencies, during the ceremony. Ann Cobb, director of the Human Resource Development Group and the Public Manager Program for the Office of State Personnel, was Master of Ceremonies and Jean Waters, program assistant for the Public Manager Program, presented the certificates. Franklin Freeman, chief of staff to the Governor of North Carolina, provided the keynote address.
The North Carolina Society of Certified Public Managers® was well represented at graduation. Sarah Smith (president) had the opportunity to address the graduates and audience, sharing with them the mission of the Society and the many benefits membership provides, Amy Sawyer and Beverly Hall (board members - Membership and Ways & Means Committees) set up an attractive display of Society merchandise, which was quite popular. Tami Hinton (president-elect) and Sandy Pearce (past-president) were also in attendance to wish the graduates well.
The designation of Certified Public Manager® is not easily attained. It demonstrates commitment to professional and personal growth, pursuit of excellence in public management as well as a major commitment of time on the part of the student as well as their agency. The North Carolina Society of Certified Public Managers® is proud indeed of the 2004 graduating class and we wish them well.
