President's
Message Continued
By the time this edition of the Newsletter is published, my term as President will be just about completed and a new Board will assume leadership of the Academy. I will become the Immediate Past President assuming the position currently held by Larry Totten. There is no way that Larry could ever be replaced, but I look forward to my new role on the Board and promise to do my best. Debbie Smith becomes President, Bill Herman continues on the Board and begins his role as President-Elect and Greg Hyland replaces Bill Herman as the Member At-Large for Conferences and Communication for a two-year term. Larry Gordon begins a two-year term as Treasurer taking over for Ed Burt. Julie Felice and Robinil Jameson continue to serve in their roles as Secretary and Member At-Large for Member Affairs, respectively, for another year. All will miss Larry's and Ed's presence and service to the Board and to the Academy.
The focus of my Presidency has been on communication and cooperation efforts to enhance the viability of the Academy, build upon the relationships with the Member Societies and the National CPM Consortium and to further the recognition and value of Certified Public Managers and the CPM credential.
I am proud to have been able to lead the Academy and serve you. I have grown both personally and professionally from this experience and I thank you for contributing to that growth and for allowing me the opportunity to serve you. I have done my best to live up to the Mission of the Academy, the Code of Ethics and to my Oath of Office.
I cannot sufficiently express my appreciation and gratitude to the other Members of the Board with whom I have had the privilege to serve. Service on the Academy Board and being the President are uniquely rewarding experiences that are founded upon dedication, cooperation, collaboration and understanding.
What we do as CPM's in our lives, both professionally and personally, is critical to the success of our agencies, achieving the mission of those agencies and in our becoming better persons. I urge you to continue to reach for and achieve success in your lives and to promote the CPM philosophy within your agency, your Society and the Academy. I encourage you to increase your participation in your Society and with the Academy at the national level. I look forward to seeing many of you next September in Manchester, New Hampshire, at the 17th Annual AACPM Professional Development Conference
The highlight of my Presidency has been the friendships forged and the opportunity to work with my outstanding colleagues on the Board, with the officers of the Societies and with each of you. Debbie Smith is a strong, dedicated and focused leader and manager. She will serve us well as Academy President and will continue to move the Academy forward. The 2005 Board of Directors are an outstanding group of individuals, dedicated to providing the best possible programs and services to foster the CPM movement nationally.
It has been my distinct honor and privilege to have been selected by you to serve as your President of the Academy this year and I thank you again for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to continuing my service to you as Past President of the Academy during the upcoming year!
