Wisconsin Society of Certified Public Managers®
The Wisconsin Society of Certified Public Managers® was well represented at the AACPM Conference in Topeka, Kansas, this past summer. We were paying close attention to the excellent work of the Kansas Society and their Conference Committee as we prepare for hosting in 2007. We add our congratulations and thanks to all who worked on this outstanding event—you are to be commended for a job well done! We will rely on your expertise as we continue to plan our conference.
A variety of projects have been completed or are being worked on. We have updated our Society brochure and created a new member information packet, which was used during a recent membership drive, which had good results. We are particularly excited about a new initiative to develop a "Speakers Bureau" comprised of WSCPM members. The basic concept is to provide a presentation forum utilizing the many talents of our members. Members will provide presentations on various public management related topics to public management organizations or conferences. There will be a standard cost schedule for these presentations and the member presenting will receive half of this rate and the Society will receive the other half. The Society will manage the coordination and marketing of the Speakers Bureau. We are currently gathering information on possible topics that could be delivered in the form of one hour, half day, full day or multi-day presentations.
"Public Records, Privacy and Supporting Technology" and "Human Resources: A Practical Approach" were the themes of our most training conferences held this fall. With the rapid development of electronic communication including e-mail, video conferencing and the use of Web pages, public entities have been forced to re-evaluate what components of their communications are subject to the Open Records laws and how this digital information should be most efficiently saved, while assuring it is also accessible. The technology training event focused on "best practices" to help public entities deal with these issues. The Human Resources seminar was the result of a partnership developed with the Register of Deeds Association to provide training at their annual conference. That seminar focused on personnel issues such as grievance procedures, "just cause" and corrective action.
We are a small but energetic group of management professionals dedicated to excellence in government! We are working hard to grow our membership so we can take advantage of the skills and talents of over 225 graduates in our State. We look forward to working with other societies as we help each other to be our best! |
