Being from a southern state; the cooler nights and warm ‘Indian Summer’ autumn days are just arriving here in Oklahoma. Our trees are much more colorful than usual this year and these beautiful indicators are sending me the signal that the end of my time as AACPM president is nearing fast. It seems like only yesterday that our board team began our year in service. It gives me much cause to reflect on this year. I have been fortunate to work with such wonderful colleagues, each of whom is mission-centered and dedicated to providing the best possible member services and programs. We committed to make ourselves visible and more available to our societies. Collectively, we have visited the states of Washington, Kentucky, Kansas, Arkansas, Utah, Arizona, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, and Wisconsin to participate in graduations, conferences, or other special events. We were able to do this as schedules and budgets allowed. We seek to do more of this; it remains a truly rewarding experience. As we can see the cold & snowy season edging into our northern states, we remember it is a new season nearing and one that notes the change in our elected leadership. It is a time of new beginnings, fresh challenges and unfolding opportunities within our societies and Academy. Not only will Bill Herman become the 2006 AACPM President; Julie Felice will serve as President-Elect, Judy Dennis will serve as Secretary, Larry Gordon will serve as Treasurer, Greg Hyland will serve as Member at Large for Communications and Conferences, Robinil Jameson will serve as Member at Large for Member Affairs and myself as AACPM Past President; many of our societies will change leadership. We will be most saddened to begin the 2006 year and AACPM board without Ronald Buchholz, our current Past-President. Ron leaves his mark and his vision for continuous CPM program expansion and improved membership communication in our hands and we know he is only a call or inquiry away from us. Ron’s leadership and value to CPM was best noted when he was selected to receive the 2005 Henning Award. Ron Buchholz is the epitome of public sector leadership. A sincere congratulations - one more time, Ron from the AACPM and from me. It's important for us to recognize the important role Certified Public Managers play in daily life and public sector organizations. Our skills, values, ethics and advocacy for public service through CPM fuel the vitality of our Academy, your own organization and America's public sector. Words cannot express my gratitude for having been selected to proudly serve as your 2005 President. I thank each of you numerous times for your many contributions to my own professional growth, and for making our Academy a great place to keep on developing as leaders and public managers…More > |
