A project team of five Granite State public sector managers were recognized for “exemplary service, significant contributions and accomplishments” by the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® (AACPM) meeting held in Manchester, NH in September.

The New Hampshire managers were presented the 2005 AACPM President’s Award by AACPM President Debbie J. Smith, CPM of Oklahoma.

Recognized by the AACPM were Theresa Jarvis, CPM of the NH Department of Health & Human Services, Linda Kennedy, CPM of the NH Department of Revenue Administration, Kathleen Moulis, CPM of the School for Life Long Learning, David Perry, CPM of the NH Department of Health & Human Services, and Daniel Millis, CPM and Daniel Lennon, CPM of the NH Department of Corrections.

The Granite State managers, all graduates of the New Hampshire Certified Public Managers® (CPM) program, were recognized for their conducting of a national survey of CPM programs and graduates to help determine the value of the Certified Public Manager® designation.

“Information generated as a result of the project will be very helpful, not only to the AACPM in its developing marketing initiatives, but to the individual state CPM programs, state societies and the National CPM Consortium as well. This effort is the first documented material that demonstrates the value of the Certified Public Manager credential and the return on investment that both individuals and employers have made,” AACPM President Smith said.

“The President’s Award is intended to recognize and publicly celebrate an inidividual’s service, accomplishments and status as an informal leader among the members of the American Academy,” commented Smith. “The members of the New Hampshire CPM project team went ‘the extra mile’ and set aside their time to significantly help the Academy. The information gathered by their survey project has been one of the most significant efforts made for the AACPM in the Academy’s history.”

Beyond their efforts for the AACPM, the team members are also members of the New Hampshire Association of Certified Public Managers® (NHACPM). The project was undertaken as part of the team members’ participation in the NH Certified Public Managers® program, from which they all graduated in 2004. Three members of the project team, Team Leader Theresa Jarvis, Kathleen Moulis and David Perry, formally presented the findings of their survey project at the 16th Annual AACPM Professional Development Conference held in Topeka, Kansas in June 2004. The project, which took nearly two years to complete, is available for review at the AACPM web site (www.cpmacademy.org).

Criteria for the President’s Award include the awardee materially improved the Academy program(s) or initiative(s) in behalf of the membership and in consultation with the AACPM Board of Directors; volunteered as a member, not as an elected Academy officer or board member; demonstrated leadership and communicated effectively with all interested parties; and sustained focus and energy over at least a two year period.
