Society News

The Wisconsin Society of Certified Public Managers® continues to promote quality, efficiency, effectiveness and productivity in all forms of government. Board and Committee members are actively working on a variety of projects including expansion and upgrading of our website; scheduling, planning and coordination of the Society’s training schedule for the next year; making an extra push on recruiting members; and ongoing development of a Speakers Bureau. In addition, we have worked on a variety of administrative items such as implementation of a Privacy Policy, organizing historical documents, conducting the annual financial audit, and updating our brochures, letterhead and By-Laws. And, once again, we are striving to put together a basket of items for the New Hampshire conference that every attendee will want to own!

In May, the Board of Directors held their meeting in conjunction with the graduation ceremonies for the 17th Class of Wisconsin Certified Public Managers®, which brings the total number of graduates in our State to 244. We were allowed to speak to the graduation class during their last class so that we could encourage Society membership and present them with “new member” information packets. We followed this with an invitation to lunch, paid for by the Society, which was an excellent opportunity to network with these potential members. We also had a presence during their graduation ceremony. We were privileged to have Bill Herman, AACPM President-Elect and AACPM Past President Ron Buchholz in attendance at all of the day’s events. We believe this is the first time we’ve had a past AACPM President and an incoming one attend a graduation ceremony—perhaps we made history??!!

We have made considerable progress with our plans for the AACPM Conference to be held in Madison in September of 2007. The conference theme “Forward in Public Management” and its incorporation into our logo will be unveiled soon. The Planning Committee and Board will meet at the Conference site in August to tour the facilities we have chosen, the Concourse Hotel & Governor’s Club. Sub-committees are meeting to explore ideas for keynote speakers, workshops, entertainment, networking and awards functions. We will be well represented in New Hampshire so that we can continue to learn how to put on a high quality conference. Please look us up so we can tell you more about our plans for your visit to Madison. We would also like to hear what might interest you! Wisconsin has much to offer and we are anxious to be your hosts. Visit our website at www.wscpm.org for more information which will be posted as it becomes available.
