Congratulations to Ohio’s Graduates!

On April 20, 2007, the State of Ohio held the largest ceremony in the history of the Ohio Certified Public Manager® (OCPM) program.

This ceremony was held specifically to honor and recognize 103 of Ohio’s finest public servants and the newest group of “Certified Public Managers®.”

Each graduate is applauded for this significant achievement. The road to certification was paved with 300 training hours, two extensive work-related projects, and a comprehensive examination to assess mastery of learning content. The government professionals successfully traveled that road and earned the nationally accredited credential and designation of “Certified Public Manager®.” This certification signifies competence in a targeted body of knowledge and the critical skills for effective public management and leadership.

On behalf of the State of Ohio, Governor Strickland and the Certified Public Manager Advisory Board, Department of Administrative Services’ (DAS) Director Hugh Quill congratulated and addressed the graduates during the ceremony. Director Quill provided wonderful comments which included the following quotes:

“…All of you have demonstrated a belief in the OCPM strategic vision:  Leading Excellence in Public Management” and “…Although we are gathered here today to celebrate an end – an end to this chapter in the book of your life’s education, we are also here to look with favor upon a bold beginning. For now you are called to go out and collaborate and build teams. You are called to mentor and to teach and to share. You are called to continue to serve. And – you are required to lead.”

Additional remarks and comments were provided by several notable government leaders including DAS Deputy Director Nancy Kelly, American Academy of CPM board member Becky Bryant, Ohio CPM Society board member Patti Barnett, and the cohort graduate representatives.
