Fall Workshop Rounds Out Active Training Year for Society:
The Society presented its fall workshop in Raleigh on October 21, 2003, at the Jane McKimmon Center (NCSU). The theme was Partnering and the New Rules of Management. The workshop was cosponsored by the North Carolina Quality Network. The featured presenter was Charlotte Roberts, an executive consultant affiliated with the Learning Consortium. Total participation was 89 including 38 society members.

2004 Officers Installed at Annual Meeting:
The North Carolina Society of Certified Public Managers installed new officers at its Annual Business Meeting on November 7, 2003, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Officers for 2004 include President, Sarah Smith with the UNC Office of the President; President-Elect, Tammy Hinton with the Office of the Commissioner of Banks; Treasurer, Charlie Helms with the N.C. Department of Revenue and Secretary; Peter Burke with N.C. State University – Housing. Outgoing President, Sandy Pearce, administered the Oath of Office. The Society looks forward to another banner year as we actively pursue the goals of the NCSCPM. The Society also awarded the Margaret. J. Bailey Award to Past President, Mary Reese (Dept. of Health and Human Service – Cherry Hospital).

The North Carolina CPM Program Graduates 62 New Graduates:
On October 20, 2003, 62 new graduates became Certified Public Managers. With the graduation of this class, over 1,542 managers have completed the PMP with 72 new mangers beginning the program each year. This year, thanks to the efforts of our Membership Committee, 16 of those graduates became new Society Members.

During that graduation exercise, Ann Cobb, Director of the Personnel Development Center, presented the Askew Award to Roger D. Rochelle. Rodger’s award winning project was entitled "Research Technology Transfer and Implementation: A Story of Momentum." Rodger, who is employed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, will attend the AACPM Conference to receive his medallion.

Program Committee Announces Spring Workshop:
The Spring Workshop, Building on Your Own Wisdom With Organizational Development Tools, will be held on April 29, 2004 in Raleigh. Presenters will provide insight and training in inspiring and retaining talent, promoting continuing excellence and review of quality improvement principles and tools. Trainers will include Jane Bozarth with the OSP HRD Group, Kathi Parker with the OSP and Jeff Reordan with the DOT. Attendance at this training will provide five Professional Development Hours.
