Society News

Kansas Society of Certified Public Managers® (KSCPM) is in the middle of a busy year. Planning statewide outreach activities and partnering with other educational training resources are two of our major goals. Thus far in 2006 we have participated in the following activities:

  • Periodic visits to three different class sites in Topeka, Kansas City, and Western Kansas.
  • Membership meeting in which State Legislative Post Auditor Barbara Hinton discussed a topic public sector issue of school finance
  • Partnering in a community service project with the Lions’ service club to administer eyeglass donation boxes at public locations
  • Coordination with the University of Kansas Public Management Center on various projects, including the Capstone Project and several educational opportunities.

June 13-15, 2006 will be the annual Kansas Certified Public Manager® Conference co-sponsored by KSCPM, the University of Kansas Public Management Center, and partners of the Certified Public Manager® Program including Mid-America Regional Council, League of Kansas Municipalities, Kansas Association of Counties, and the USDA Graduate School. “Sailing into Uncharted Seas” offers three days of discussions and seminars on subjects ranging from imminent domain and legislative issues to CPM Capstone projects. A CPM refresher track for past graduates will be offered, including such topics as intergenerational issues and knowledge management. President-Elect Julie Felice, and immediate Past President Debbie Smith of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® will attend the conference. Registration is open to all current CPM students and graduates. The mid-year review will follow the conference.

In the remaining months of 2006 one of our projects in planning is the on-site broadcast of membership meetings via internet for those members who are across Kansas and those who live out-of-state. KSCPM plans to continue with educational and networking opportunities for students and graduates. All in all, this is turning out to be a rewarding year.
