Ted Barber, CPM of the Year Award
by Sean Ashley Fisher, CPM
At the Florida Society of Certified Public Managers®
January training symposium and awards banquet, the society bestowed
its highest recognition to Ted Barber as the FSCPMs CPM of
the Year.
His strength of faith, his sense of commitment and dedication
to the Society, and his exhaustive list of activities are all attributes
of his selfless desire to do more for others, whether they be family,
friends, employees, or Society Members.
Ted Barber began his career in the military. A decorated helicopter
pilot, he flew for the 5th Special Forces units in Viet Nam. He
became a battalion commander and ended his service with more than
36 years of military reserve and active duty service.
With short stints in various private sector industries, he went
to work for the Baker Correctional Institutes Personnel Division
and for the past four years has worked for the Northeast Florida
State Hospital (NFSH) in Macclenny, Florida for a total of 19 years
of service in State government.
Teds supervisor, Mr. Marcus Rhoden, the Assistant Institution
Superintendent at the NFSH, whose praise for his employee was an
echo of Teds long list of community service activities and
accomplishments.
The CPM of the Year award criteria included a description of the
nominees FSCPM and American Academy of Certified Public Managers
(AACPM) activities, their career accomplishments and their community
service. This years committee members included: Judy Baker,
Northeast Florida Chapter; Nancy Donaldson, North Florida Chapter;
Karl Goodwin, Central Florida Chapter; Clark Turberville, South
Florida Chapter; and Sean Fisher, North Florida Chapter, all who
took their time to evaluate our CPM of the Year nominees.
Ted has demonstrated his leadership and management ability not
only to his organization, but to our Society time and time again.
