Since writing my article for the Special Edition of the Newsletter,
I have taken the opportunity to look back at calendar year 2003 and then
to look ahead. I am a firm believer in the old adage that "Those
who fail to study history are doomed to repeat its mistakes." I also
believe that we fail to look back to reflect upon and truly appreciate
all that we have accomplished. In todays environment and pace of
living, we rush off to the tackle and resolve the next issue or problem
facing us and never give a thought and lose sight of all that has been
accomplished.
At the beginning of 2003, the Academy was facing a number of challenges
due in large part to the economic conditions of the nation. Financial
constraints at the federal, state and local levels of government affected
the ability of many members to participate in Academy activities. These
constraints impacted the Academy's financial stability and operations
yet, by the year's end, a significant number of milestone achievements
had been reached. More >
