Kansas Society of Certified Public Managers®

By Shirley Hollis, CPM

To fellow CPM associates across the United States –

2004 proves to be a very exciting year for the Kansas Society of Certified Public Managers®. We are looking forward to hosting the annual Professional Development Conference in Topeka, Kansas on June 20-23, 2004. We hope you will be able to attend. We welcome you to our state, and know you will find your visit to the heartland of America very appealing. The beautiful sunrises/sunsets, the friendly citizens, the appeal of the open space, the beautiful fields of grain and prairies are very relaxing and provide great picture taking or mental photo opportunities. We truly love our state!

We do hope you will attend. We understand funds are very short in many instances, but the speakers and the networking that is available, could provide the possibility of you to return to your government entity and provide cost saving measures. If your government entity can not provide full or partial funding, does your society have sufficient funds to assist CPM society members to attend? How ingenious can you be to find sufficient savings and innovative ways to make it possible for you to attend or to reduce the cost of the conference to allow you to attend? You will find the hotel costs are very cost efficient. We have established the registration fee to be very affordable and to include most meals to assist in saving money. You truly do not want to miss this opportunity. If you plan to attend, we hope you can arrive in time for the Sunday evening event, as this will provide you a great opportunity to visit our state historical museum—so come early to be able to attend all the events that are scheduled.

Registration forms will be available in the very near future and you will be able to register from the AACPM web site—so watch for further details.

Besides the conference planning where many KSCPM members are involved, the Kansas society will continue to grow. The 2004 Kansas CPM class includes 78 new attendees. This program continues to grow each year. We welcome these new students to this program. The society focus will be on the conference for the first half of this calendar year. We will continue to host our bi-monthly society meetings to provide the educational opportunities to our members and other interested individuals. Our goal is to increase membership during the current year also.

Kansas is looking forward to a very exciting year for the Society. If we can provide any special details about the conference for you, please let us know. Conference co-chairs are Kent Olson and Pat Writt and they would be delighted to provide any information you desire.

Best wishes to each society, officers, and members, for an exciting year for your society. KSCPM is planning to see you in Kansas in June, 2004!! Welcome to KANSAS!!
