By now the “Happy New Year’s” have all been said and we should all be used to writing “2006” on our checks, correspondence and other materials. As I write this in mid-February, the Northeast is experiencing its first major snowstorm of the year…a virtual unheard of delay from the grips of a “normal” cold & snowy winter that we are used to in this region. This edition of The CPM Connection marks the first opportunity I have had to communicate with the Academy membership at large as your President. Every year brings a new beginning which holds promise for continued growth and a chance for renewed efforts on both a personal and a society level. I consider it to be both an honor and a privilege that you have allowed me to lead the Academy during the coming year. I thank you again for providing me with the opportunity to lead the Academy in undertaking new initiatives, while continuing to support and enhance the work of our previous Presidents and Academy Boards. Gathering in the warmth of San Diego, California, the Board not only focused on the immediate Academy business at hand, but also took a look at where we may be heading as an organization through a renewed Strategic Planning effort; considered and expanded leadership opportunities to involve more Academy members than usual in the business of our organization; and had the chance to meet with two of the newest CPM Program Directors in the country as a new CPM program is getting put together in the most populace state in the Union. Elsewhere in this newsletter, you will read of various activities or pilot projects – such as the effort to update and revise the Strategic Plan. And the one-time effort to provide one conference scholarship per member society for first-time attendees to the 18th Annual Professional Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, this fall. But the most exciting news to me this year is the expansion of the AACPM leadership team with the appointment of more Academy members than normal to various standing and special project committees…where the real work of the Academy is accomplished. Although the Academy President is tasked with naming individuals to various committees, those appointments have to be with the approval of the Academy Board. Working together, the Board has been able to name a varied group of talented individuals to advance the cause of the Academy…More > |
