Society News

The Arkansas Society of Certified Public Managers® (ASCPM) has elected its 2007 Board:

  • President - Tim Lampe
  • President Elect – Doris Anderson
  • Recording Secretary – Barbara Mahoney
  • Treasurer – Lori Morrison
  • Corresponding Secretary – Glenda Higgs
  • Parliamentarian – William E. Davis
  • Members at Large – L. Paige,  Garry Campbell, Leon Cornett and Emma Lay
  • Immediate Past President – Cynthia Nixon

Also, Becky Bryant, an active member since 1991 and Past President of ASCPM, was elected Member-at-Large for Conferences and Communications at the 2006 annual American Academy of Certified Public Managers® (AACPM) Conference held in Louisville, KY. Becky is General Business Manager for the Arkansas Department of Labor.

A membership meeting and Appreciation Luncheon were held December 7, 2006 to honor and present awards to those who have previously served the Society as President. Welcome, Introductions, and Recognitions were announced by Cynthia Nixon, 2006 Society President.

Presentation of Past-Presidents’ Plaques were made to:

  • Leon Cornett  2003
  • Becky Bryant  2004
  • Cynthia Nixon 2005

ASCPM business included a recap of the Society’s 2006 accomplishments:

  • Luncheon - December 7th - honoring past presidents’ service to ASCPM
  • Food drive for the Arkansas Foodbank Network - $55.00 & 112 lbs. of food items
  • Sixteen (16) new participants in 2006
  • Becky Bryant - elected to the AACPM Board
  • Seven (7) members attended AACPM Conference in Kentucky
  • Emma Lay received the George C. Askew Award for her CPM Project
  • One scholarship to cover AACPM conference costs
  • Assisted APAC with a successful re-accreditation
  • Quarterly meetings with membership and speakers for each meeting
  • Quarterly meetings of Board Members
  • Participated in AGM/CPM graduation ceremonies in May 2006
  • Redesigned society logo, newsletter and printed materials
  • Updated ASCPM web page and links
  • New (larger) membership meeting room-ARS, 26 Corporate Hill (map in newsletter)
  • Two quarterly meetings had speakers from inside society
  • We are building experience and knowledge within the society
  • ASCPM members spoke during APAC classes to solicit new members
  • Advertisement in Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Conference program
Later in 2007, the Society plans to host a luncheon to recognize all Arkansas Governmental Managers and Arkansas Certified Public Managers® who received certification through the program. Through May 2006, more than 600 Arkansas public managers have completed requirements for certification as Arkansas Governmental Manager (AGM) or Certified Public Manager® (CPM).
