The American Academy of Certified Public Managers® (AACPM) offers a unique opportunity for professional development, national networking, ongoing education and community service through volunteer leadership opportunities. Your participation in program activities, on committees or in the governance of the AACPM enhances the benefits received by you and others in the Academy.

In 2007, there will be three AACPM Board seats up for election, including President-Elect, Secretary and Member-at-Large for Member Affairs. The President-Elect’s position is a three-year term of office (one year as President-elect, one year as President and one year as Past President), while the terms for Secretary and Member-at-Large are both two-years in length.

The annual Academy election will take place as part of the annual AACPM House of Delegates (HOD) meeting to be held on September 12, 2007 in Madison, Wisconsin. Those elected to Academy office will begin their service on January 1, 2008. The Academy’s Officers and Board Members serve as trustees to our collective commitment to public service as an honorable calling, and to the Academy as a moral, economically viable and dynamic organization.

We are committed to treating each other with dignity and respect, and we work to provide all officers and members with the tools and assistance necessary to make the contributions that give meaning to public service.

I salute each and every Academy officer, board member and committee member with whom I have had the privilege and honor to serve during the past five years. It has been a rewarding and meaningful experience to work with these outstanding individuals for the betterment of the Academy and the Certified Public Manager® credential.

It is again time for you to consider volunteering your leadership skills, talent, experience and time in service to the Academy. You can download a “2008 Officer Nomination Form” from the website. Also, the Academy’s By-Laws and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) provide information regarding the service opportunities and the positions that will be on the 2007 ballot. Both are posted on the AACPM web site at www.cpmacademy.org.

I strongly encourage and highly recommend you become involved and run for one of the Academy offices. You can make a difference…and will be glad that you did!
