At the annual 2007 Board meeting held in Phoenix, Arizona, the Academy Board approved the FY 2006 financial closeout reports, pending auditors review. The review will again be conducted by the accounting firm Holcomb & Shreeve’s, CPA, in Gilbert, Arizona. The firm will also prepare the Academy’s 2006 tax return.
The FY 2006 operating budget was enhanced by proceeds carried forward from 2004 and 2005 annual conferences and from unexpended funds left over from the 2004 and 2005 operating budgets. The Board earmarked these funds for specific membership & marketing programs and a special purchase of member society flag sets to replace those that were soiled, out dated and not uniform in size.
The Kentucky Conference Committee submitted its closeout report which included a check for $7,712.44. These funds were for the Academy’s split of the revenue sharing ($3,560.44), return of the conference advance ($2,000), and reimbursement for the prepaid liability insurance ($2,151). A final $120 in revenue sharing was received in January 2007.
At the time of this writing, 18 of the 20 active member societies have paid their annual assessments. There were only nine at this same time last year. Eight societies have submitted their first quarter membership rosters. There were only three at this same time last year. Our appreciation goes out to the societies for their efforts to get the fees and rosters in on time.
The Amazon.com referral fees paid to the Academy rose 15% over the year before. These fees are generated by those that use the Amazon.com link button on the Academy’s home web page. Amazon is now offering to pay the Academy a 10% referral fee for all Amazon Unbox Video downloads. This is the newest video craze that offers TV shows, movies, and more for you to purchase or rent. You can view these downloadable videos on your PC, your Portable Media Player, or you TiVo DVR. In addition, Amazon Unbox stores a copy of all purchased videos in an online storage locker for re-download at any time. So, videos do not have to eat up hard drive space, and no matter where you are you can download and play your videos.
