Florida Society of Certified Public Managers®

The 18th Annual FSCPM Symposium and Awards Banquet were held on January 24 and 25, 2008 at the Embassy Suites Hotel at Altamonte Springs, Florida. First of all, I would like to thank Christine Taylor (Chairperson) and her committee (Dottie Gough, Jan Wright, Jeff Thurman, Nancy Hatch and Fred Levinson) for their effort to make the Symposium a success.

This year’s theme was “Building the Bridge for Public Management in the 21st Century and Beyond.” The speakers for the Symposium were excellent and fit in well with the theme. There were several awards presented at the banquet to many deserving members of the Society. In addition to the outstanding speakers, attendees were able to interact with each other formally and informally to discuss best practices in their various agencies.

The next Florida Certified Public Managers® Level VIII Graduation will be held on August 26-29, 2008 in Lakeland, Florida.

The 21st Annual AACPM Professional Development Conference to be held in Orlando, Florida is only 19 months away—September 20–23, 2009. The Rosen Centre on International Drive in Orlando has been chosen as the conference site. Committees, chaired by Joanne Robertson, are being formed for areas of need. The coordinating team is in the process of selecting a conference theme and logo, which is anticipated to be complete by the time you are reading this for submission to the AACPM Board for approval. The Call for Presenters form is complete, and as soon as our logo is approved, we will begin contacting sponsors and speakers.

The Florida Society and the Florida Chapters of CPM are anxious to welcome you to the Sunshine State in 2009!
