District of Columbia Society of Certified Public Managers®

Through an intensive membership recruitment effort the DC Society of Certified Public Managers® has more than tripled its membership since January. In conjunction with its efforts to add new membership benefits such as magazine subscriptions and discount programs, the Society concentrated its membership recruiting effort on a nearly 700 piece direct-mail campaign. The recruiting effort was focused around the annual elections’ meeting, along with a deadline for members wishing to receive a free one year print subscription to The Public Manager journal. The resulting increase in membership provides a solid foundation for the four new Board members recently elected.

Speaking of the membership drive and other recent activities, outgoing Society President, Danny Weiss, said: "The most important activities of the past year have been the membership recruitment effort, building the new web site, and enhancing the Society's package of membership benefits. The Society’s new Board and its members now have the opportunity to build on our recent work and expand their efforts to be a regional focal point for better state and local government management throughout the Metropolitan Washington, DC Area."

With regard to the elections, settling into their new positions as you read this are: Deborah Crain, President of the Society and last year’s Secretary; Michele Penick, Vice President; Linda Perkins, Treasurer; and Jose Dominguez, Secretary. For biographical information on each of the new Board members, see the Society’s new web site at: http://dccpm.org/boardmembers.shtml.

Finally, the DC Society is pleased to announce that it will be bringing one of its new membership benefits to the annual conference, in September, in order to make it available to all CPMs. Specifically, working with the DC Society, The Public Manager journal has agreed to provide a free sample issue and a discounted subscription rate to all conference attendees. Details will be provided to attendees in Louisville.
