Society News

The AACPM Board of Directors met on January 13-14, 2009, in Oklahoma City, OK. The Board would like to thank Debbie Smith, Joyce Smith and the Oklahoma Society for their hospitality. The Board is looking forward to another year of commitment, progress, and working for the benefit of the Academy membership. I am excited as I move into my second year as your secretary; it is an honor and privilege. If I may assist you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The Board had a busy two days and a long meeting agenda to tackle. The Board is pleased to announce they approved many committee chairs, co-chairs and membership appointments as recommended by Academy President Stephen (Steve) Mastro. Congratulations to all and thank you for volunteering to serve the Academy. We were pleased to welcome Lisa Fortier from Oklahoma as a guest to our meeting. Lisa is a member of the Consortium and provided the AACPM Board with very valuable insight and information on how the Academy and Consortium may continue to strengthen their partnership.

Here are some of the highlights from our meeting:

Past President Greg Hyland swore in Barbara Pepper, Member-at-Large. The Board was pleased to welcome Barbara to the Board family.

The Board had a lengthy discussion on the 2009 Academy brochures. Thoughts centered on having a generic brochure with no Board Member specific information listed. This would allow the brochures to be used until the supply ran out and is a good cost-saving measure. A joint brochure between the Consortium and Academy was discussed as well as having the Academy brochure available on our website for Societies to print as needed. In the end, the Board decided to provide Societies printed brochures once the final design is complete.

Past President Greg Hyland is working on the 2008 Annual Report. Each Society will receive a copy and the report will be posted on the Academy website.

The Board also spent much of the second day discussing the upcoming Professional Development Conferences:

Florida: Joyce Smith reported the Florida Conference Team is seeking Board signature for the hotel credit application for the master billing account. Florida reported exchanges with the Rosen Center are going well. Florida has communicated effectively with the Board to date and they are anticipating that registration levels will cover expenses. Greg Hyland affirmed the Board's position is to at least break even. Florida is off to a good start and close contact with them will negate any challenges, which may arise.

Oklahoma: Debbie Smith updated the Board. The Oklahoma team had a kick-off meeting, the hotel contract has been signed, and space is secured for the 2010 conference. The board approved Resiliency in Leadership -- Catching the Dream as the theme for the 2010 AACPM Professional Development Conference.

Utah: Joyce Smith indicated several issues with the 2011 conference contract have been identified and multiple sites are still under consideration. The Utah conference team is currently meeting with the hotels to secure bids for Board consideration.

South Carolina: Stephen Mastro shared recent communications with Carl Chase, the South Carolina conference team coordinator. They are considering sites in Columbia and Charleston for the 2012 conference.

Idaho: Reva Tisdale discussed the Grove Hotel, proposed Idaho 2013 conference hotel. The Grove Hotel holds a four-star rating and is the only property in Boise large enough to host the AACPM conference. It has a boardwalk and is located near the capitol, downtown, the university, and the river. The contract is currently being negotiated.

The Board will continue with the 2008 practice of conducting monthly teleconference meetings. These meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month. Academy members may forward issues or concerns that should be on the agenda to Stephen Mastro or any other board member. Approved teleconference minutes will be posted on the Academy website for members to review. The January and February Board Meeting minutes will be posted shortly and provide more details about our meetings.

Once again, it is an honor to serve on the Academy Board and I look forward to serving you as Board Secretary and meeting your needs. If you have questions or comments, please contact me at dbourbeau@dhhs.state.nh.us.
