Society News

New Hampshire is struggling like every other state in the country. It is certainly impacting our membership and our members’ ability to attend educational programs. The NHACPM Board is meeting in March with conference planning as one of the topics. Another topic our society is working on is giving input to the AACPM strategic plan. I am hoping to get some feedback from our members that can help with this process. Our election was held with the slate of officers remaining the same.

As I am writing this article, our Governor is making his State of the State Address in which he will announce programs to be discontinued and a projected number of state employee layoffs. All state agencies have reduced educational funding for employees and severely limited the number of participants in the Certified Public Manager® program; in fact, Health and Human Services announced that no employees would be approved to attend if they had not been accepted prior to October 24. Municipalities have also made drastic reductions in employee participation. We can only hope that the proven performance of CPM graduates makes such an impact that they reinstate funding and attendance. It still feels like gloom and doom, but we have faith the economy will turn around and support some of this good work.

New Hampshire is hoping our friends who live in the locations affected by the tornados in Oklahoma and in other states are safe. We are also wishing for a successful conference for Florida this September. Hey maybe, just maybe, the economy will turn around by then. [Yes, I wear rose colored glasses!]
