Arkansas Society of Certified Public Managers®

The Arkansas Society has had a busy start to 2010. The new Board held its first meeting in February and the first quarter general membership luncheon meeting on March 4. At the March luncheon, the Society honored Becky Bryant (pictured below) as a 2009 Henning Award nominee. It has been many years since Arkansas has had a nominee for the Henning Award and we are very proud of Ms. Bryant's accomplishments and service. Additionally, she received the President's Gavel Award for her service as President of the Arkansas Society in 2009.

February marked the first edition of a newsletter (http://www.arcpm.org/newsletters.html) published by the Arkansas Society for its members. This quarterly publication will keep members informed and increase member activity in Society projects and plans. In support of these goals, the Society has also published a membership directory and issued membership cards. Other goals for 2010 include a second annual fall leadership seminar and a revision of the Society's bylaws.

The Arkansas Society also approved two charity projects for 2010:  the Dorcas House and Heifer International. The Dorcas House is a women's shelter that serves more than 400 women and children in Central Arkansas annually. Heifer International is a worldwide organization that fights hunger and poverty through animal husbandry and the simple idea that it is better to give families a source of food than short-term relief. They ask recipients to "pass along the gift" by sharing their animals' offspring with other needy families.
