Halfway through my year as Society President, I’m so grateful for all the help and encouragement from each of my colleagues. Joyce Sumner brought our website a new look and feel. Mary Brewington has worked tirelessly to recognize members’ life events. And we’re champions in the community thanks to Sherry Ehrhart’s continuing efforts.

As one of its annual projects, Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Managers® (OSCPM) were out and about May 1 to help keep Oklahomans with multiple sclerosis moving. The 2010 Walk MS featured a bunch of OSCPM pirates (Arrrrgh!) forcing nearly 2,000 participants to “walk the plank” at the Oklahoma City Zoo. In spite of the rain, walkers enjoyed hot dogs from Bar-S and music from the Second Chance Band.

Walk MS is the rallying point of the MS movement, a community coming together to raise funds and celebrate hope for the future. This year’s walk raised more than $128,000 to fund cutting-edge research, life-changing programs and services, and advocacy efforts for the 3,200 Oklahomans and the 400,000 people all over America living with MS.

OSCPM fielded questions on Quality Team Day May 6 and hosted our second Leadership Lunch & Learn for 2010 on May 12. Lisa Fortier helped us jump-start our goal setting with Stephen Covey’s “Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind” – a great thing to remember as we all switch to summer mode.

Our conference and programs team have stirred up a dust devil of activity. There are still opportunities to help the various 2010 conference committees with publicity, soliciting sponsorships and vendor booths.
