The Academy has a heartbeat and a pulse. There is rarely a dull moment. Lots of activity is in the forefront and happening behind the scenes. The Board holds monthly teleconferences. Standing and ad hoc committees are meeting, sharing ideas, and taking care of the business of the Academy. Read about their progress in this newsletter. It is not too late to join a committee. There is much work to be done.

Speaking of committees at work, the Management Practices Committee has distributed information for submission of George Askew Award recipients to members of the National Certified Public Manager Consortium®. The deadline is July 26, 2010. Additionally, Kenneth Henning Award materials have been distributed to all Society Presidents. The deadline for nominations is July 16, 2010. Also, look for Fran Wilkinson Scholarship applications, soon. They must be returned by August 3, 2010.

Did you know AACPM will provide a proclamation for graduation ceremonies of state certified public manager programs®? So far this year, we have answered requests from Arkansas and New Hampshire recognizing graduates from their state CPM programs. Proclamations commend graduates for their accomplishments and encourage them to become members of their State Society. They are free for the asking. Check with your state CPM program director for approval, then contact me to request a proclamation for your state program’s graduation ceremonies.

Representing the Academy as an Officer or a Member-at-Large (MAL) is a rewarding service. You put your organizational and professional skills to action. You learn about and live by the AACPM Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). You bond with fellow Officers and MALs. You meet and work with Academy Fellows from all parts of the country, not just for Academy business, but career-professional contact, also. You help influence the direction and progress of our wonderful Academy. Any Officer or MAL position is worthy of the time and activity it requires. Now is your chance to step up to serve by self-nominating for your position of choice. Nomination forms are on-line at www.cpmacademy.org. The deadline for nominations is August 2, 2010.

Society Presidents will soon be invited to participate in a teleconference. This will give us a chance to share what is happening with your society and other pertinent Academy topics. We are working out the details for dates and methods. Watch for your invitation by e-mail.

I close by encouraging you to attend the 22nd Annual Conference of the American Academy of Certified Public Managers®. The conference is October 17-19, 2010, at Cox Communications Convention Center, and the vivacious Oklahoma City awaits you. The beautiful Renaissance Hotel is the headquarters hotel. To review conference information, register for the conference, or make hotel reservations, visit the conference website at www.aacpmconference.com or link from the Academy website. This conference is a professional development, leadership, and educational event. We encourage you to share conference information with other organizations throughout your city and state whose professionals could benefit from attending. We truly hope to see you in OKC!
