Society News

In 2007, the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Managers® is celebrating 20 years of the CPM program in Arkansas. The Society had a picnic luncheon in June at the Arkansas State Capitol Café; and more than 70 Certified Public Managers®, faculty, and their guests enjoyed a great meal, great fellowship; and shared fond memories of fun times. Governor Mike Beebe provided a proclamation to the Society, and it has been beautifully framed. This treasure will be passed from the current President, Tim Lampe, (Arkansas Department of Human Services) to the 2008 President, Doris Anderson (Arkansas Department of Labor), and to each new society President annually thereafter.

The Society held well-attended quarterly meetings, has had a successful membership drive, and will host a “Holiday Reception” in December. Governor Beebe, all thirty-five state Senators, the one-hundred members of the Arkansas House of Representatives, state agency directors, Arkansas Public Administration Consortium (APAC) faculty and staff, others who support the Certified Public Manager® program; and Certified Public Managers® in Arkansas have been invited to attend the holiday event.

A society web site was approved by the membership, and it is now online at: http://www.arcpm.org.

The Bylaws committee has reviewed and revised the society’s bylaws, and the membership will vote on the changes at their December business meeting. Society publications and forms also have a new look. New society officers will be elected in December.

We will be working closely with APAC faculty and staff to recruit additional members in 2008. Having a web site will be very helpful in our communication and outreach efforts. We are looking at ways that other states have incorporated the CPM program into their states’ supervisor and manager training, and we hope to develop some continuing education opportunities in the coming year.
