Summer and a spectacular fall have come and gone. The beauty of this State still amazes me. With the coming of a new year the New Hampshire Association of Certified Public Managers® (NHACPM) is in discussion with New England College for a joint conference in March. We consider this a wonderful opportunity for our Association. As plans are being made we will be updating you.

Nominations for NHACPM Board positions are underway. Our hope is that we will have some members that are willing to invest the time in their association to help it continue to grow.

Deb Bourbeau, Treasurer, is on the ballot for AACPM Secretary. We are there to support her as she takes this step in promoting the CPM designation. New Hampshire thanks all the candidates for office for their willingness to serve the members of the AACPM.

Dennis Martino has been named as our new CPM program director. We took the opportunity to meet with him and discussed conference plans and the Association introduced itself at the CPM classes to share the advantages in membership with the State and national organization. Also discussed were ways graduates can give back to the program, i.e., teaching, assisting and representing CPM philosophy to upper management in the public sector.

The Frank Guinta, Mayor of the City of Manchester, presented the Askew Awards to the two recipients. We have all been excited about that opportunity.

Like everyone else I was feeling burdened by all the tasks that I have taken on – the honor of carrying in the New Hampshire flag at the opening ceremony of the AACPM Conference in Madison, Wisconsin in September was like a shot in the arm. It made me fill with pride in the AACPM and in my decision to go forward with CPM classes back in 1996 while I was working full time and being a full time single parent, grandmother, and daughter. Completing this program was one of the most career-life changing times in my life. Through this program and the decision I made I have met numbers of individuals in this State and learned about their jobs, plus gained new friends and contacts from the rest of the country. All I can say is WOW!

I retired in September and had the honor to screen applicants for my position. One of the criteria that my supervisor had was a preference of CPM graduate. He believes in the program and wants all managers and supervisors in the Hospital to go through the program. Wouldn’t it be nice if all managers in the public sector felt the same?
