The 2008 House of Delegates (HOD) met on September 10, 2008, in Columbus, Ohio. This was a very productive and informative meeting. Here are the highlights from the meeting:
GOVERNANCE
Board of Elections Committee
The results of the AACPM Elections of Officers are as follows: Joyce Doakes Smith (OK), President-Elect; Reva Tisdale (ID), Treasurer; and Barbara Pepper (MS), Member-at-Large/Conferences and Communications.
Mentoring Committee
Communications have been established with Nebraska, Nevada, Alaska and Iowa regarding the implementation of new Societies being developed.
Ways and Means Committee
The Committee continues to seek out new ways to increase revenue for the Academy. This year new long sleeve t-shirts; sports bags and other items were sold with the Academy logo on the merchandise.
Bylaws and Ethics Committee
The Board approved a new SOP Section (SOP 21.50--Member Society Flags) on August 26, 2008 and the HOD approved the two Bylaws changes (Bylaws Sections 4.2--President and 8.4--Meeting of the Board) proposed in the Committee Report submitted by the Ethics and Bylaws Committee for the September 10, 2008 HOD Meeting.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee reviewed the proposed 2009 Academy Budget prepared by the President-elect. The $5 dues increase approved by the HOD in 2007 becomes effective on January 1, 2009. The committee considered the best use of these new funds. Due to a slight decline in membership and ongoing increasing costs, some of this $5 increase went to maintaining current services. The remainder was allocated to improve member services through grants and support to societies, enhancements to the Academy web site, and to support new initiatives to be identified by an updated strategic plan in 2009.
COMMUNICATIONS
Communications Committee
Numerous updates to the Academy web site (www.cpmacademy.org) have been done throughout the year to provide members with the most up-to-date information available on Academy activities and to provide necessary forms for award and Board nominations.
The Academy membership brochure is usually updated each year and distributed to member Societies requesting copies. At the Board of Directors’ meeting in February 2008, the Board discussed preparing a "generic" edition of the brochure, excluding the Board of Directors' names and contact information and replacing it with a synopsis of Board duties and responsibilities so they could be used for a longer period of time and be more cost effective. The Board will continue to discuss this alternative.
Integrated Marketing and Resource Catalog Committee
The Committee recommends that the current Resource Catalog, along with any additions developed by the Committee, be converted to a "generic" format and made available to Member Societies via the Academy website. There should be minimal costs associated with converting the materials to this format for web access; however, the Committee seeks approval and support from the HOD and AACPM Board to make this material available in other mediums, if requested.
MEMBERSHIP
Henning and Management Practices Committees
Refer to articles regarding the recipients of the Henning Award and Askew Awards.
MEMBER SERVICES
Wilkinson Scholarship Committee
The 2008 recipients of the Fran Wilkinson Scholarships are Rebecca Conley (KY) and Julianna Carvi (OH). Each received an award for $750 at the Awards Banquet on September 9, 2008 in Columbus, Ohio.
Conference Committee
Conference bids have been received and accepted through 2013. Conference committee members created a historical summary of AACPM conferences containing valuable information to current and future planning committees. This document and the ending reports from the most recent three conferences should be posted on the Academy Web Site as reference materials to currently active conference planning teams.
Member Affairs Committee
During the year, new member certificates were issued to all new members. The membership directories will be posted on the web page.

At the Columbus, Ohio Conference, the AACPM Leadership Institute featured the following presenters and topics: Susan Schubert, "Emotionally Intelligent Leadership;" Steve Wall, "Governor’s Efficiency and Continuous Improvement Initiative;" James Gears, "The Ten Commandments of Communicating with People with Disabilities;" Jim Canterucci, "Personal Brilliance Innovation Problem Solving Model;" Glenn Thomas, CPM "Checking Your Oil At Work – A Leadership Primer;" Lillian Zarzar, "De-fusing Conflict: A guide to a more productive team;" Jim White, "Influential Leadership;" and Neville Gayle "Managing Difficult Conversations at Work;"
