South Florida Chapter CPM Symposium Creates Quite a Buzz
By Kathy Shurte, CPLP
The FSCPM South Florida Chapter held their 13th Annual Symposium on September 24th and folks made a beeline to Broward County’s newest Nature Center, Long Boat Key, in Davie. The theme was Bee All That You Can Bee. The hall buzzed with excitement as more than 105 CPM graduates, candidates, and supporters gathered for a day of camaraderie and learning.
Jim Wolfe, CPM, got the day off to a sweet start, as he skillfully related some of history's best "be" quotes to the management practices expounded in the CPM program. Among them:
-
To be is to do--Montaigne
-
To do is to be--Descartes
-
To be or not to be--Shakespeare
-
Do be do be do--Sinatra
Every hour featured a new speaker--Lisa Rogers-Cherry, Lewis B. Freeman, Coach Howard Schnellenberger, and Georgette Carroll--and the day ended with Dr. Nancy Rehbine Zentis.
Nancy's topic was Succession Planning. One idea she presented was that of creating a talent driven culture. While this is a new notion for many organizations, FDOT-D4 seems to be ahead of the curve on this trend. Managers need to think beyond today and analyze the future needs of the organization. That means not only looking at someone's past performance, but also considering their ability potential and developing that. The other great take-away from Nancy's presentation was the 9-box model for developing employees in the performance potential pipeline.
Congratulations to Ellen Daniel, Chapter President, and all of her worker bees for providing a day that pollinated some new ideas. To learn more about our CPM Program, go to www.fscpm.org/south.
