Utah Society of Certified Public Managers®

I am excited to share with you some of the changes that are happening with our Society. The Board and committees have been hard at work the past six months to improve the Society and provide opportunities to our members. We have updated the vision and mission statement to more accurately reflect who we are and what we want to be:
New Vision:
The premier source of leaders and leadership solutions
New Mission:
1) Advance effective leadership expertise
2) Contribute to innovative change in Utah government
3) Enhance the value of the CPM program
As you can see, we are moving from a management organization to a leadership organization, and we want this reflected in all that we do.
Our goal is to offer leadership opportunities to our members and to provide leadership to public entities. One way we plan to accomplish this is through graduate CPM teams. These teams will function much like CPM Course 3 teams, chartered by state agencies and other government organizations to help solve problems. This is a very exciting and challenging endeavor, and we want the best minds working on it. There have also been some changes to the Board and its operation to provide better service to the membership and to make service a more rewarding experience. Additionally, we are striving to improve our relationship with DHRM, the CPM consortium, the CPM classes and instructors.
Personally, I have been more involved in AACPM over the past year and have found it to be a dynamic organization that effectively espouses and promotes the CPM principles on a national level, and now, the Utah Society will also be taking on a greater role in the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® (AACPM) as planning for hosting the 2011 AACPM Annual Professional Development Conference continues.
The Society is raising dues effective January 1, 2009 to $50 per year. This includes membership in both AACPM and USCPM, the monthly lunch training sessions, discounts to other trainings, such as the annual manager's conference and full access to all AACPM and USCPM privileges. This is a tremendous value and opportunity for our current and potential members.
