The Arkansas Society has been very active this year. Membership recruitment and retention has been a focus area. On a monthly basis, board members have alternated speaking to CPM program students. Membership packets were designed and distributed to prospective society members. The membership packets included promotional information about AACPM as well as the Arkansas Society.

Two featured events for 2009 included an annual holiday reception and the 1st Annual Leadership Conference.

1st Annual Leadership Conference:  One of the largest and most time-consuming projects this year was planning and sponsoring the daylong leadership seminar held on October 6, 2009. A committee of several ASCPM volunteers worked diligently for months planning and preparing marketing materials for the Society’s “first in a long, long time” leadership seminar featuring Randy Frazier. Randy is an Arkansas native who retired from state government as Superintendent of Pinnacle Mountain State Park. In the early 1990’s, Randy began accepting speaking engagements throughout the mid-south, and since 2004 has trained and entertained organizations and businesses from coast to coast. We were very excited to work with Randy. We had 116 registrants; we received rave reviews and hope to make the leadership seminar an annual event.

Annual Holiday Reception:  The Society’s annual meeting was held in conjunction with a holiday reception hosted by the Society at the Arkansas Governor’s mansion. We had excellent attendance of approximately 75 that included Society members, their guests, agency directors and supervisors, and several state legislators. As a fundraiser, the Society raffled two valuable, framed prints signed by the Governor and donated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Foundation. During the annual meeting, certificates of appreciation were presented to Board members whose terms expired December 31. Outgoing President, Becky Bryant, presented a President’s Award to Doris Anderson for her dedication and outstanding service to the Society. Candidates to fill vacancies on the Board of Directors were presented and elected by acclamation. Becky Bryant swore in the newly elected officers.
