Shirley Hollis,
Kansas Society, Receives 2011 President’s
Award
The President’s
Award, first presented in 1999, is given by
the standing president to acknowledge,
recognize, and publicly celebrate
outstanding service and accomplishment
within the Academy. Shirley Hollis of the
Kansas Society of Certified Public Managers®
(OSCPM) is the 2011 recipient.
Shirley has
served as the president of the Kansas
Society three (3) times, in 2004, 2005 and
2009, and served as host Society conference
chair for the 2004 AACPM conference in
Topeka, Kansas. She has served as a
Delegate in the Academy’s House of Delegates
nine (9) times, and has served on numerous
committees at the Society and Academy
levels.
Most recently
Shirley faced a monumental challenge at
home, in that the Kansas Society struggled
mightily through the second half of 2010 due
to a lack of leadership and commitment.
Shirley stepped up and took on the task of
saving the Society, rebuilding it from near
death, and returning it to health and
productivity with over 50 members at the end
of second quarter of 2011. All the while,
Shirley was also serving on the new AACPM
Society Support committee, working to
develop tools, resources and strategies to
help other struggling Societies avoid what
her own Society was going through. Perhaps
most telling of all is that Shirley would be
the first person to tell you that She didn’t
do anything, and would point out the others
who she feels deserve more credit for these
accomplishments.
Shirley truly
reflects the core values and principles of
what it means to be a Certified Public
Manager®. She has been active in the
Academy and her Society for many years, and
continues her involvement in and dedication
to the CPM Program, her Society and the
Academy year after year.
