Wilkinson Scholarship Recipients
The
American Academy of Certified Public
Managers® awarded two Wilkinson
Scholarships at the 19th Annual
Professional Development Conference
held in September 2007 at Madison,
Wisconsin.

member Patrick Brown works in
the Information Systems Branch at
the Department of Criminal Justice
Training in Richmond, Kentucky. He
is also taking college courses at
Kentucky State University to fulfill
the requirements for becoming a
Certified Public Manager®. When he
completes the required courses for
the CPM program, Patrick will have
acquired 18 undergraduate hours
toward the Bachelor of Public
Administration degree at Kentucky
State University or towards a
Bachelor of Arts in Business
Administration. “The money will be
very helpful in paying for part of
the cost of finishing the CPM
program,” he said. “I feel honored
to be chosen by the Academy as a
recipient.”
Sharon Kelley is a Wisconsin
Certified Public Manager (CPM) who
works for the Wisconsin Department
of Health and Family Services in
Madison, Wisconsin. Sharon is a
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
and is currently working as the
Department’s project manager for a
statewide PeopleSoft Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) system
implementation. Sharon holds a
Bachelor of Business Administration
degree from the University of
Wisconsin, Madison. She is attending
classes through the University of
Wisconsin, Platteville and expects
to receive a Master of Science in
Project Management Degree in May,
2009. Sharon is honored and
delighted to receive this award and
says, "My classes directly relate to
the work I'm doing for my employer
and the financial assistance
provided by the Wilkinson
Scholarship is sincerely appreciated
by both my family and myself.”

Two $750.00 educational scholarships will be
awarded at the 20th Annual AACPM
Professional Development Conference to be
held in Columbus, Ohio on September 7-9,
2008. The
scholarship is available to all members of
the Academy who are enrolled in a college
program that prepares them for a career in
public management. Applicants must submit an
application form and two letters of
recommendation. Society
leadership is encouraged to identify
candidates from their respective society and
to encourage their members to apply.
The scholarship is named for Fran Wilkinson,
an early leader in CPM. Fran was dedicated
to professional and adult education. She was
president of the Georgia Society in 1983 and
Chair of the National CPM Consortium in
1987. Fran died unexpectedly on June 6,
1990. On April 30, 1994 the House of
Delegates voted unanimously to name the
Academy’s annual scholarship “The Fran L.
Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship” as a token
of remembrance, affection, and esteem.
Barbara Taft (OK) is the Chairperson and the
committee members are Deidra Jones of
Florida, Bill Herman of New Hampshire,
Douglas Holt of Kentucky and Dr. Ada Burnett
of Florida.
