Patrick E. Brown

Sharon Kelley

KSCPM member Patrick Brown works in the Information Systems Branch at the Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond, Kentucky. He is also taking college courses at Kentucky State University to fulfill the requirements for becoming a Certified Public Manager®. When he completes the required courses for the CPM program, Patrick will have acquired 18 undergraduate hours toward the Bachelor of Public Administration degree at Kentucky State University or towards a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. “The money will be very helpful in paying for part of the cost of finishing the CPM program,” he said. “I feel honored to be chosen by the Academy as a recipient.”

Sharon Kelley is a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager (CPM) who works for the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services in Madison, Wisconsin. Sharon is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is currently working as the Department’s project manager for a statewide PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation.  Sharon holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is attending classes through the University of Wisconsin, Platteville and expects to receive a Master of Science in Project Management Degree in May, 2009. Sharon is honored and delighted to receive this award and says, "My classes directly relate to the work I'm doing for my employer and the financial assistance provided by the Wilkinson Scholarship is sincerely appreciated by both my family and myself.”

Two $750.00 educational scholarships will be awarded at the 20th Annual AACPM Professional Development Conference to be held in Columbus, Ohio on September 7-9, 2008. The scholarship is available to all members of the Academy who are enrolled in a college program that prepares them for a career in public management. Applicants must submit an application form and two letters of recommendation.  Society leadership is encouraged to identify candidates from their respective society and to encourage their members to apply.

The scholarship is named for Fran Wilkinson, an early leader in CPM. Fran was dedicated to professional and adult education. She was president of the Georgia Society in 1983 and Chair of the National CPM Consortium in 1987. Fran died unexpectedly on June 6, 1990. On April 30, 1994 the House of Delegates voted unanimously to name the Academy’s annual scholarship “The Fran L. Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship” as a token of remembrance, affection, and esteem.

Barbara Taft (OK) is the Chairperson and the committee members are Deidra Jones of Florida, Bill Herman of New Hampshire, Douglas Holt of Kentucky and Dr. Ada Burnett of Florida.

The application deadline for 2008 Scholarship nominations is August 1, 2008.
